SL batters with most runs in a T20 WC edition
The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup went underway on June 1 with the West Indies and the USA being the co-hosts. Meanwhile, 2014 champions Sri Lanka have been placed in Group D alongside four other sides. They will fight for their second title. Here are the SL batters with the most runs in a T20 WC edition.
Charith Asalanka - 231 runs, 2021
Though Sri Lanka endured a hard time in the 2021 edition, Charith Asalanka enjoyed a sensational run in UAE. The middle-order batter played some brilliant knocks as he finished with 231 runs across six games at a fine average of 46.20. His strike rate was a sensational 147.13 as the tally included two fifties. Asalanka overall finished as the fifth-highest run-getter of the competition.
Mahela Jayawardene - 243 runs, 2012
Skipper Mahela Jayawardene led the Lankans from the front in the 2012 edition at home. SL qualified for the final but lost the title clash to West Indies. Jayawardene constantly made his bat talk as he hammered 243 runs across seven matches at 40.50. His strike rate was 116.26 as he smashed a solitary half-century.
Mahela Jayawardene: 302 runs, 2010
Jayawardene finished the 2010 edition in West Indies as the highest run-getter. He slammed 302 runs from six games, striking at 159.78 (50s: 2). He averaged 60.40 in the tournament. Jayawardene also became Sri Lanka's first centurion in T20 WCs. The Lankan team was knocked out in the semi-final stage that year. Notably, he also starred in Sri Lanka's title-winning run in 2014.
Tillakaratne Dilshan: 317 runs, 2009
Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan made his name as a destructive opener in the late 2000s. He starred for the Lankans in the 2009 T20 World Cup in England where they ended as runners-up. Dilshan averaged a solid 52.83. Dilshan, who finished as the highest run-getter, smacked 317 runs from seven games at a strike rate of 144.74. His tally included three half-centuries.
