IPL: Most runs by an uncapped player in a season
Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag smashed a fighting 48 against Punjab Kings in Match 65 of IPL 2024. Although the Royals lost the match, the in-form Riyan entered the record books. He joined his skipper Sanju Samson to become the second player from RR with 500 runs this season. Riyan now has the third-most runs by an uncapped batter in an IPL season.
Yashasvi Jaiswal: 625 runs, 2023
RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had a ground-breaking IPL season last year. He racked up 625 runs at 48.08 and maintained a strike-rate of 163.61. At 21 years and 123 days, Jaiswal also became RR's youngest centurion in the IPL. The RR dasher also broke Shaun Marsh's record for smashing the most runs by an uncapped batter in an IPL season.
Shaun Marsh: 616 runs, 2008
Australian batter Marsh hogged the limelight in the inaugural IPL edition (2008). Marsh, who represented Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), played some incredible knocks throughout the tournament. He eventually became the first player to win the Orange Cap after scoring 616 runs from 11 matches at 68.44. To date, Marsh has the second-most runs by an uncapped player in a season.
Riyan Parag: 531* runs, 2024
After a poor IPL season (2022), Riyan has bounced back with a bang for the Royals. He has silenced his critics by playing several match-winning knocks for RR this season. As of now, he has smacked 531 runs from 13 matches at 59.00 (four half-centuries). RR still have one league match remaining, while they have already booked the playoff berth.
Ishan Kishan: 516 runs, 2020
Ishan Kishan was pivotal to Mumbai Indians' success in IPL 2020. He impressed with some solid knocks as they ended with a fifth IPL title. Ishan smacked 516 runs in 14 matches at an average and a strike rate of 57.33 and 145.76, respectively. This remains Ishan's only IPL season where he tallied in excess of 500 runs.
