T20 World Cup: Most runs against spinners in an innings
Co-hosts USA beat Canada in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup opener in Dallas. Aaron Jones and Andries Gous hammered fifties as the United States chased down 195 to record a win on their T20 World Cup debut. Jones smashed a 40-ball 94* to get USA home in 17.4 overs. He scored 69 runs against spinners, now the second-most in a T20 WC innings.
Brendon McCullum: 74 vs Bangladesh, Pallekele, 2012
Brendon McCullum has the highest individual score against spinners in a T20 World Cup innings. The dasher slammed a 58-ball 123 for New Zealand against Bangladesh in the 2012 encounter in Pallekele. His knock included 11 fours and 7 sixes. McCullum slammed 74 runs off just 39 balls against spinners in that innings. Five of his sixes came against spinners.
Aaron Jones: 69 vs Canada, Dallas, 2024
Jones was at his destructive best against Canada as he hammered the fastest T20I fifty by a USA batter, off 22 balls. The USA batter remained unbeaten, having scored 94 off just 40 balls. He hammered four boundaries besides 10 maximums. As many as 69 of his runs came against spinners. He had a strike-rate of 276.00 in this regard.
Jacques Kallis: 66 vs India, Gros Islet, 2010
Former all-rounder Jacques Kallis smashed a 54-ball 73 as South Africa attempted to chase 187 against India in the 2010 T20 World Cup encounter in Gros Islet. Although the Proteas fell 14 runs short, Kallis earned praise for his knock. He slammed of 66 of those runs against spinners. All of his boundaries came against spin (3 fours and 3 sixes).
Shane Watson: 66 vs Pakistan, Gros Islet, 2010
Australia's Shane Watson played an identical knock in the same tournament at that very venue against Pakistan, albeit in a winning cause. Watson hammered a 49-ball 81 as Australia racked up 191 in 20 overs. Pakistan were later bowled out for 157. Watson scored 66 of those runs against spinners, recording 6 fours and 4 sixes.
