Teams to lose 20-plus ODIs after posting 300-plus totals
What's the story
Team India not only won the second ODI against England, but also clinched the series and erased an unfavorable record.
Before this match, both India and England shared the dubious distinction of losing the most matches after scoring 300-plus runs.
But after England's defeat in Cuttack, this unwanted record now belongs to them.
Here are the teams to lose 20-plus ODIs after posting 300 or more.
#1
England - 28 losses
In the second ODI in Cuttack, England posted 304 after getting all out in 49.5 overs.
Chasing the target, India achieved it with 33 balls to spare, scoring 308/6 in mere 44.3 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma hammerd a century.
This was the 28th time England lost a match after scoring over 300, setting a new world record.
As per Cricbuzz, the Brits have touched the 300-run mark 99 times in ODIs.
#2
India - 27 losses
Thanks to their latest triumph, India no longer share the top spot on this list.
Overall, they have lost 27 games despite posting a score of 300 or more in ODIs.
It must also be noted that the Indian side has touched the 300-run mark most times in ODIs.
The Cuttack ODI marked the 136th instance of the Men in Blue touching the mark in the format.
#3
West Indies - 23 losses
The only other team to lose more than 20 ODIs after posting 300 or more runs is West Indies.
They have suffered as many as 23 defeats in this regard. They overall own 62 totals of 300-plus in the format.
Meanwhile, the two-time ODI World Cup winners are trailed by Sri Lanka on this list.
The Lankan Lions have suffered 19 of their 87 games after breaching the 300-run mark.
