Teams with most defeats in IPL playoffs

Despite making a miraculous comeback, Royal Challengers Bengaluru failed to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for the 17th season running.
Rajasthan Royals beat RCB in the Eliminator to end their campaign. This marked the 10th defeat for the Royal Challengers in the IPL playoffs.
RCB are the first side with more than nine such defeats.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 10 defeats
As mentioned, RCB have become the first side to lose 10 or more games in the IPL playoffs. They have lost 10 of their 16 playoff games so far.
RCB finished as the runners-up of the 2009, 2011, and 2016 IPL editions.
Besides, they lost in the playoffs in 2015, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024.
RCB are yet to win an IPL title.

Chennai Super Kings: 9 defeats
Chennai Super Kings hold the record for reaching the most IPL finals. They have won five trophies so far, in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
The Yellow Army were the runners-up of the inaugural season in 2008. They also played the final in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019.
Overall, the Super Kings have lost nine of their 26 playoff games.

Delhi Capitals: 9 defeats
Like the Super Kings, Delhi Capitals have also lost nine playoff matches in IPL history. They have only won two such encounters so far.
The Capitals, earlier known as the Delhi Daredevils, were the semi-finalists in 2008 and 2009.
They lost two playoff matches despite finishing first in 2012.
In 2020, DC played their first-ever IPL final as they lost to Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad: 7 defeats
MI are the only side other than CSK to have won more than four IPL titles. They won the title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
Notably, MI lost their only other final in 2010, to CSK.
The five-time champions have lost six other playoff games.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 2016 IPL winners, have also lost seven of their 12 playoff games.
