Indian wicket-keepers with most centuries in Test cricket
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a triumphant return to Test cricket following a severe car accident. His comeback was marked by a match-winning century against Bangladesh in the 1st Test in Chennai. Pant now has the joint-most centuries among Indian wicket-keepers in Test cricket. He equaled the long-standing record of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Here re the Indian wicket-keepers with most Test centuries.
MS Dhoni: 6
Before the Chepauk Test, Dhoni had the most centuries by an Indian wicket-keeper in the longest format. Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, scored six tons in Test cricket. He even owns a double-ton, which came against Australia duruing the 2013 home series. Notably, five of Dhoni's six Test tons came in home conditions.
Rishabh Pant: 6
As mentioned, Pant has emulated Dhoni's record of slamming six tons in Test cricket. However, the former has emerged as a more versatile batter, having recorded four of his six centuries away from home. At 26, Pant already has a Test ton in Australia, England, and South Africa. His highest Test score of 159* came in Sydney on the 2018/19 Australian tour.
Wriddhiman Saha: 3
Pant's predecessor in Tests, Wriddhiman Saha remains the only other Indian wicket-keeper with three-plus centuries. The latter scored three tons between 2010 and 2021. Two of his three tons came at home. As of now, Saha has scored 1,353 runs from 40 Tests at an average of 29.41. He became India's mainstay wicket-keeper in Tests after MS Dhoni announced a shock retirement in 2014.
