A look at sides with most appearances in IPL final
Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad to reach the 2024 Indian Premier League final. The Knight Riders successfully chased down 160 after bowling SRH out in Qualifier 1. Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer completed their run-chase in just 13.4 overs. KKR reached their fourth IPL final, having won the title in 2012 and 2014. Here are the sides with most such appearances.
Chennai Super Kings: 10
Chennai Super Kings hold the record for reaching the most IPL finals. They have won five trophies so far, in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Mahendra Singh Dhoni led them to each of those titles. The Yellow Army were the runners-up of the inaugural season in 2008. They also played the final in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019.
Mumbai Indians: 6
Mumbai Indians have a terrific record in the IPL finals. They first reached the summit clash in 2010, when CSK defeated them. MI then went on to win each of their five finals. They claimed the silverware in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 with each of those coming under Rohit Sharma. MI won three of those finals against CSK.
Kolkata Knight Riders: 4
As mentioned, KKR qualified for their fourth IPL final after beating SRH in Ahmedabad. The Knight Riders topped the points table in IPL 2024. It is worth noting that KKR finished in the top two only twice ahead of IPL 2024. They went on to win the title on both occasions. Besides, KKR finished as the runners-up of the 2021 edition.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 3
Royal Challengers Bengaluru remains one of only few sides without an IPL trophy. They have featured in three finals so far. RCB finished seventh in the inaugural season before winning the tournament next year. However, the Anil Kumble-led RCB lost the 2009 final to the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. RCB reached two other finals in 2011 and 2016. They lost to CSK and SRH, respectively.
