Laureus World Sports Awards 2018: All you need to know
The 18th edition of the Laureus Sports Awards will be held on February 27 along the French Riviera in Monaco. Amidst the glitz, several former legends of the world, from different sports, are set to attend the show. Since its inception in 2000, the awards honor achievements of athletes from across the sporting world. Here's all you need to know about the awards.
What do the awards signify?
A glittering set of sportsmen, sportswomen and teams across the globe have been nominated by the media. Known as the 'Oscar of Sports', the awards honor the greatest achievers in a calendar year. A total of nine awards will be presented amongst which the Lifetime Achievement and Spirit of Sport Awards are two categories chosen by the Laureus Academy.

Hollywood star Benedict Cumberbatch is set to host the show for a third time in his life. The likes of Roger Federer and Usain Bolt hold the record as four-time winners. The 2018 Laureus Awards is to be broadcast in 160 countries.
2018 Laureus Awards Nominees
In the 'Sportsman of the Year' category, veteran tennis stars Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been nominated. Cristiano Ronaldo also finds his name besides Formula One champion, Lewis Hamilton. In the Sportswomen category, USA rule the charts with 4 representatives including Serena Williams. The likes of Real Madrid (Football), Golden State Warriors (NBA) are amongst the six teams nominated in Best Team category.

World's fastest man, Usain Bolt was adjudged the Best Sportsman. American gymnast Simone Biles won the Sportswoman award. Swimming legend Michael Phelps bagged the comeback of the year award for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Leicester City won the Spirit Award.
