Dipa misses bronze by whisker, wins hearts
Dipa Karmakar made India proud as she is the first Indian woman to reach finals of gymnastic event. She was in the second place after her first attempt, where she performed Produnova. But she slipped to fourth after final contestant performed an amazing performance to win the gold. She missed the bronze medal by mere 0.2 points.
Indian men lose to Belgium in knockout stage
Indian men's hockey team lost to Belgium in the quarter-finals here at the Olympics. India lost 3-1. After striking a goal in the first-quarter, India was in the lead. But back to back goals by the Sebastien Dockier had put India on back foot. Belgium started dominating as soon as they scored their third goal and then there was no coming back for India.
Czech Rebuplic deny India its first medal
Czech Republic pair of Stepanek-Hradecka denied India its first medal as they beat Indian pair of Bopanna-Mirza 6-1,7-5 in the bronze medal match for mixed doubles.
No good news from boxing, shooting and athletics
Indian boxer Manoj Kumar went down 0-3 against Uzbekistan boxer in the pre-quarters in 64kg group. India finished medal-less in shooting after Gagan Narang and Chain Singh finished 33rd and 24th respectively in the men's 50m Rifle. Marathon runners Kavita Raut and OP Jaisha finished 120th and 89th respectively in the women's marathon race.
Its the end of road at Rio for Saina Nehwal
Indian badminton player and 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal lost her second group match against Ukraine's Marija Ulitina ending her run at the Rio Olympics. The world number 5 was defeated 21-18, 21-19 by the world number 61. Saina had an inflammation on her right knee which made it difficult for the Indian to move around the court.
Sindhu, Kidambi win; reach pre-quarters
PV Sindhu won in her second group clash as she beat Canada's Michelle by 19-21, 21-15, 21-17 in her second group match. She has reached the pre-quarters round of women's single event. Srikanth Kidambi had a rather easy win against Sweden's Henri Hurskainen. Kidambi won 21-6, 21-18 as he sailed his way to pre-quarters of men's singles event.
Tweets and messages flow as Dipa finishes fourth
Indian sports personalities congratulated Dipa after her amazing performance. Among them were Bindra, Rayawardhan Rathore, Harbhajan Singh and many more. Sehwag tweeted "Thank u #DipaKarmakar for getting us united at midnight cheering for Gymnastics, in a country with no infrastructure for this sport. Super Proud."
Usain still fastest man, wins third consecutive gold
Usain Bolt won gold medal in the men's 100m event, his third consecutive gold. He finished 100m in 9.81 seconds. Britain's Andy Murray beat Argentine Juan Martín del Potro to win gold in the men's single tennis. With 26 gold, 21 silver and 22 bronze, the United Sates is on top of the medal chart with a total 69 medals.
