Mithali Raj says coach Powar humiliated her, also blames Edulji
When Mithali Raj was excluded from the squad for Indian Women's T20 World Cup semifinal match against England, it had raised a massive hue and cry throughout the country. Mithali has finally come out to speak on the topic and has blamed Committee of Administrators' member Diana Edulji of being biased. She has also blamed coach Ramesh Powar for discriminating against her. Here's more.
Mithali's comments on the CoA member and the coach
Mithali said, "Few people in power are out to destroy me", referring to Committee of Administrators' member Diana Edulji, and also said that she was using her power and position against Mithali. She also claimed that the coach Ramesh Powar was discriminatory in his behavior against her, avoiding her during training sessions and even refused to speak to her when approached.
Mithali was performing consistently before being dropped
Notably, Mithali was not dropped due to her poor performance, as she was awarded two Player of the Match awards in the series for her batting. Further, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said after the match that she had "no regrets" about leaving Mithali out of the team.
Separately, Ganguly, Jhulan Goswami lent their support
Separately, Sourav Ganguly has lent his support to Mithali, saying that sometimes even the best have to suffer, and urged her not to let go easily. Jhulan Goswami said, "The decision was taken by the team management. I am sure they have their reasons, but as an Indian cricket fan I felt bad to see Mithali sitting in the dugout."
Mithali has written a letter to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri
Mithali has stated all her grievances in a letter to the BCCI, saying, "For the first time in a 20-year-long career, I felt deflated, depressed and let down." "I am forced to think if my services to my country are of any value to a few people in power who are out to destroy me and break my confidence".
