Dane Paterson signs with Middlesex ahead of WTC final
What's the story
South African fast bowler, Dane Paterson, has signed a seven-match deal with Middlesex for the County Championship.
The move will see him playing at Lord's in April and May, possibly enhancing his selection chances for the World Test Championship final on June 11.
The 35-year-old cricketer has an impressive record with five-wicket hauls in both Tests he played against Sri Lanka and Pakistan during South Africa's home summer.
Contract details
Paterson's contract includes 4 games at Lord's
Paterson's new deal with Middlesex includes the first seven Championship matches of the team, four of which will be played at Lord's.
The same venue will host South Africa vs Australia in the WTC final.
Paterson took 180 Championship wickets at an average of 23.25, including seven five-wicket hauls, in his four seasons with Nottinghamshire.
However, Nottinghamshire didn't renew his contract, paving the way for his move to Middlesex.
Player's perspective
Paterson expresses excitement about joining Middlesex
Upon joining Middlesex, Paterson was excited and committed to the team.
He said, "It's an honor to be joining Middlesex. I will do my best to give Middlesex the best chance of getting promoted back to Division One again, where the club belongs."
Although he left Nottinghamshire after four successful years, he has no regrets and looks forward to playing at Lord's - "such a prestigious ground."
Player movements
Other players sign for County ahead of WTC final
Paterson's move to Middlesex isn't a standalone case.
Kyle Verreynne (Notts) has also signed for a county side before the WTC final, while David Bedingham is returning to Durham.
Australian players Cameron Green (Gloucestershire) and Beau Webster (Warwickshire) are using the Championship as a build-up for the final.
Meanwhile, several other possible participants are engaged in either the IPL or PSL during this time.
