IPL 2025: Suryakumar Yadav to be traded to KKR?
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly considering a significant move ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. According to Revsportz, the franchise is planning to bring back former player and current Mumbai Indians' star batter, Suryakumar Yadav. This potential change comes despite Shreyas Iyer's successful leadership in IPL 2024. The proposed trade would also involve Iyer moving to MI while Yadav returns to his former team.
Yadav's history with KKR and potential return
Yadav has a history with KKR, having played for the team from 2014 to 2017 before joining MI. The Kolkata-based franchise is reportedly eager to facilitate this trade, using Iyer as the bargaining chip. This move could potentially cause discontent among KKR's fan base, given Iyer's instrumental role in leading the team to victory in IPL 2024.
Iyer's future in domestic cricket and IPL
Iyer, who was recently left out of the BCCI's central contract due to his non-participation in India's domestic cricket, has made a comeback. The 29-year-old batter is set to play in the Duleep Trophy and Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament for Mumbai alongside Yadav. "Shreyas Iyer will play for the Mumbai team at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament organized by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association," confirmed MCA joint secretary, Deepak Patil.
SKY likely to lead in KKR
This trade would all but likely make SKY the captain of KKR. Notably, he didn't get the leadership role at MI as the five-time champions went with Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma's successor ahead of the 2024 event. It must be noted that SKY is also India's T20I captain. Meanwhile, if Hardik is not retained, Iyer can also become MI's new skipper, given this trade is successful.
