With this win, MI reached the finale of IPL 2019, as CSK will look to pocket the Qualifier 2 to progress. Chennai managed 131/4 after a disciplined effort from MI. MSD only CSK player to surpass 400 runs this season
MS Dhoni (37*) became the 13th player to surpass 400 runs in IPL 2019. MSD is the only CSK player to have achieved this feat. He smashed three sixes and increased his total tally to 209. He went past Robin Uthappa in terms of career IPL runs. MSD and Ambati Rayudu shared a 66-run stand. Rayudu (42*) surpassed the 250-run mark this season (261).
Bowlers script some notable individual feats
Rahul Chahar (2/14) was the pick of the bowlers for MI. He has 12 wickets from 12 matches this season at an economy-rate of 6.83. Krunal Pandya (1/21) took his 11th wicket this season. Deepak Chahar increased his wicket-taking tally to 17 this season. He is also the leader in terms of most dot balls this term. Chahar surpassed Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhajji gets to 148 career IPL scalps and other feats
Harbhajan Singh now has 14 wickets in IPL 2019. The veteran off-spinner increased his career IPL wickets tally to 148. He needs three more to surpass KKR spinner Piyush Chawla (150). Faf du Plessis now has 41 catches in IPL. He equalled Dwayne Smith. Suryakumar Yadav surpassed the 1,500-run mark In IPL.
How did the match pan out?
CSK didn't get the ideal start and were reduced to 65/4 after electing to bat first. MI spinners did well to stop the runs and take wickets as well. Rayudu and Dhoni got together and gave CSK the impetus towards the death. Their partnership was key. In reply, MI lost both their openers cheaply, before Suryakumar Yadav guided the side home.
