Mehidy Hasan emphasizes on early preparation for 2027 ODI WC
What's the story
Bangladesh all-rounder, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, has stressed the need to start preparing for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup immediately.
With two and a half years to go for the tournament, Hasan feels it's time to start building a strong team.
"It's a process. We must make decisions now and stay committed to the long-term vision," Mehidy was quoted by the ICC.
Strategic planning
Consistency in selection vital for success
Hasan stressed that consistency in picking players is important for the success of the team.
He cautioned against starting preparations only two to three months before the tournament, saying it would make things very difficult.
His remarks come in the wake of the departure of several key players from the white-ball setup, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmud Ullah, and Tamim Iqbal.
Team transition
Hasan acknowledges the impact of veteran players' departures
Hasan also acknowledged the effect of veteran players' departures on the team.
He said that "the previous generation laid a solid foundation," and it's now up to the current generation to build on it.
This is his way of recognizing the contributions made by seasoned players like Rahim and others, who have greatly impacted Bangladesh cricket over their careers.
Future goals
Hasan's vision for the future of Bangladesh cricket
Hasan also praised players like Mushfiqur Rahim for their long-term commitment to the team.
He said, "Players like Mushfiqur bhai (Rahim) and others from the previous generation have served the team for 7-8 years, leading Bangladesh cricket to new heights."
He added that it is now time for his generation to take Bangladesh cricket to new heights, reflecting his ambition and commitment toward improving their performance in international competitions.
Leadership
Hasan's role in Bangladesh's future
Having already played 180 matches for Bangladesh across formats, Hasan is set to take on a senior role in the team.
Despite Bangladesh's dismal group-stage exit from Champions Trophy 2025, Hasan is hopeful about their chances in the upcoming World Cup.
The tournament will be played in October and November 2027, and will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
