Mehidy Hasan Miraz aims to become 'best all-rounder'
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a prominent figure in the Bangladesh cricket team, has set his sights on becoming the "best all-rounder" in the sport. Since his debut in October 2016, Mehidy has proven himself as a formidable number eight batter in Test cricket. As per Cricbuzz, he shares the record for most runs scored at this position with Jason Holder, both having amassed 1,041 runs.
Mehidy's notable performances and future aspirations
Mehidy's recent performance in the Test series against Pakistan further solidified his reputation. In the first Test, he scored a crucial 77 runs in a record-breaking 196-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim for the seventh wicket. He followed it up with another timely 78 in the second match. Despite his success at number eight, Mehidy aspires to excel higher up in the batting order.
Mehidy's role to become 'more significant' post Shakib's retirement
Mehidy believes that his role in the team will become "more significant" once fellow all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan retires. He stated, "If a team has two all-rounders, it provides a great advantage." Mehidy acknowledged that his improved batting skills have started to benefit the team more than before when he was primarily seen as a bowler.
Mehidy expresses confidence ahead of India Test series
Following their victory against Pakistan, Mehidy expressed confidence about the upcoming two-match Test series against India. He acknowledged that while Team India is a strong side with excellent players, Bangladesh have some understanding of the conditions there from previous matches. Despite past performances not being great, he emphasized that this time they are going with confidence and will try to enjoy the conditions in India.
