Megan Schutt disappointed with Stoinis, Pattinson's homophobic remarks
Australian seamer Megan Schutt revealed she was upset with her male counterparts James Pattinson and Marcus Stoinis' recent homophobic remarks. The 27-year-old wants men to be more receptive towards homosexuality while they are attacked even more for being gay. The number one T20I bowler was widely despised after she came out as a lesbian a few years ago. Here's more.
Stoinis and Pattinson were fined for homophobic slurs
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was fined after directing a homophobic slur at Kane Richardson during a Big Bash League (BBL) game. Besides, James Pattinson was banned for one match, owing to player abuse during the third Test against New Zealand last year. "I haven't been attacked for being a lesbian but I know men that have been for being gay," Schutt said.
I was called a paedophile: Schutt
In her same-sex marriage debate, Schutt also went on to describe the flak she received following her marriage with girlfriend Jess Hollyoake. She stated, "It was honestly a pretty horrific time, I got called some really nasty things. The usual stuff was go to hell." "I had people who call you a paedophile or say you're worse than an animal," she added.
We went through some horrible times: Schutt
"It was a pretty horrible thing. I remember putting out a rainbow flag on our balcony and Jess didn't want to have that up there. She said, what if someone targets our house because of that?" Schutt was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.
Gabriel was charged with a breach of Article 2.13
West Indian fast bowler Shannon Gabriel was charged by the ICC for his homophobic comments on Joe Root during the 2019 Test series. However, the England captain's reply was hailed extensively over the social media. "Don't use it as an insult. There's nothing wrong with being gay," Root's comments were caught by the stump microphone.
