Kerala's young pacer, KM Asif is among the new additions to the squad of the returning franchise, Chennai Super Kings. As a testament to his noteworthy performances in the domestic circuit, the 24-year-old earned his first IPL contract when CSK bought him at Rs. 40 lakh. KM Asif: Player profile
KM Asif hails from Malappuram area of Kerala. Unknown until last year, he got a chance to play for his state early this year right in time before the IPL auction. He played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he picked five wickets in two T20 matches, at an economy rate of 7.37. This short stint gained him recognition during the IPL auction.
Luck by chance
Asif, the son of a daily wage labourer, had to endure financial problems early in his life. But Asif's dedication has helped him reach a point where he will rub shoulders with MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, and Dwayne Bravo. The young pacer, who admires Virender Sehwag's batting, says that it has been his dream to play under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

Asif's career took a turn after he came under the mentorship of Biju George. Biju is a renowned coach who is currently with Indian women's team. He guided Asif for four years in Trivandrum while the Kerala Cricket Association sponsored him.
