PSG thrash Lyon as Mbappe breaks a 45-year-old record
PSG are flying on a high note as they continued their winning streak in Ligue 1 after thrashing Lyon 5-0. A penalty by Neymar was followed by a 4-goal spectacle by 19-year-old Kylian Mbappe. This saw the reigning champions emerge in flying colors. Mbappe has also etched his name in the history books with this performance. Details follow.
Which all records were broken by Mbappe?
Mbappe scored all four goals in a space of 13 minutes. At 19 years and 9 months, he became the youngest to score four goals in a Ligue 1 match in the last 45 seasons. PSG have won their opening 9 league matches, breaking the record held by Olympique Lillois, which was created in 1936. Manager Thomas Tuchel said Mbappe could have scored more.
Tuchel and Mbappe's views after the match
Tuchel was ecstatic after the match, saying, "Fantastic, incredible. It was super hard in the first half, it was a crazy match". This was Mbappe's first match after coming back from a ban, and he praised his team-mates for the great balls they provided him through out the match. He has also agreed that he needs to work more to get to the top.
Mbappe can become one of the GOATs in future
Mbappe won the best young player award at the 2018 World Cup. Further, he was also awarded with the Golden Boy, and might become the first player to retain it. Consistent in his performances and humble in his composure, Mbappe has qualities to reach the summit. If he continues such a form in the coming decade, he can cement his name among the GOATs.
