Floyd Mayweather to buy New Castle United FC?
What's the story
Retired boxing celebrity Floyd Mayweather has made the headlines for a bizarre claim.
He said he could be interested in taking Premier League football outfit New Castle United.
The 41-year-old also added that he might even be able to tempt his 'long-time buddy' Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid, to finish his career at the English club.
Ready to invest
I invest with my head not my heart: Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather, who retired from boxing last year with a flawless fighting record of 50-0, is supposedly undergoing MMA training for a UFC bout against lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
While open to new business opportunities, Mayweather believes in investing with his head and not with heart.
Mayweather said "Soccer is not my game but I've got connections everywhere."
Up for sale
Status of New Castle United
Having accumulated 32 points in 30 games, New Castle currently occupy 13th place in the Premier League. They are separated from 18th-ranked Southampton by just 4 points.
The club has been up for sale since last October and its owner Mike Ashley is keen to sell it.
The club came close to being bought by Staveley's PCP Capital Partners but the talks fell off.
