IPL sensation Mayank Yadav continues to recover from from injury
Mayank Yadav, a fast bowler who made his mark in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, has been absent from competitive cricket for over three months due to a recurring abdominal strain. Despite only playing four games and bowling just 12.1 overs in the tournament, Yadav's speed and accuracy left a lasting impression on both fans and cricket pundits alike. His most memorable moment came when he dismissed Australian all-rounder Cameron Green with a blistering delivery clocked at 156km/h.
Yadav's performance hailed by former India bowling coach
Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey praised Yadav's performance, particularly his dismissal of Green. "One dismissal says it all. That wicket was enough for me to say whoa! This kid is special," Mhambrey told The Indian Express. He was not just impressed by the wicket-taking delivery but also the build-up to it, where Yadav consistently bowled at speeds over 155km/h.
Yadav's absence from competitive cricket due to injury
Yadav has been absent from the cricket field for over three months due to a recurring abdominal strain. He was not selected for any of the four Duleep Trophy squads and has withdrawn from the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL). A Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official confirmed that Yadav is still recovering from his injury and has been spending time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Yadav's recovery process and future prospects
Yadav's mentor and former Delhi U-19 coach Narender Negi revealed that the fast bowler is currently being monitored by NCA physios and trainers. "He has been given a routine by the physios at the NCA. They are monitoring his body," Negi told The Indian Express. He also emphasized that Yadav is a special talent who needs careful handling due to his ability to bowl at high speeds consistently.
Yadav's rehabilitation and return to cricket
Yadav has been advised to bowl 12-15 overs daily as part of his rehabilitation at the NCA. Negi encouraged him to view this period as a learning phase, citing Jasprit Bumrah's comeback after a year-long break. Mhambrey also shared his thoughts on Yadav's recovery, stating that he needs to bowl more and play first-class cricket for better control and understanding of his body's limits.
