Matt Henry surpasses Richard Hadlee in terms of ODI wickets

Star New Zealand pacer Matt Henry has scripted history by going past the legendary Richard Hadlee in terms of ODI wickets.
The 32-year-old achieved the feat during a thrilling 2025 ICC Champions Trophy clash against India in Dubai.
With a stunning five-wicket haul (5/42), Henry not only helped New Zealand restrict India to 249/9, but also became New Zealand's eighth-highest wicket-taker in ODIs.
History

Henry's brilliant show saw him getting rid of important Indian batsmen including Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja.
He ended his brilliant bowling show by getting rid of Mohammed Shami on the last ball of India's innings.
Henry became the third New Zealand bowler with a fifer in Champions Trophy history. He joined Jacob Oram (5/36 vs USA, The Oval, 2004) and Shayne O'Connor (5/46 vs Pakistan, Nairobi, 2000) on this list.

Henry becomes NZ's eighth-highest wicket-taker
In 90 ODIs, Henry has raced to 163 wickets at an average of 24.85. The one against India was his third five-wicket haul in ODIs. His tally also includes 12 four-wicket hauls.
As mentioned, Henry went past Hadlee, who took 158 wickets at 21.56 in his ODI career.
The former is now the eighth-highest wicket-taker for NZ in ODIs, with Daniel Vettori leading the column (297).

As per Cricbuzz, Henry has become the first player to take a five-wicket haul against India in Champions Trophy history. The previous-best bowling figures in this regard were 4/25 by Pakistan's Naved-ul-Hasan.
