CSK's Matheesha Pathirana claims his maiden four-fer in IPL: Stats
Chennai Super Kings speedster Matheesha Pathirana bowled a match-winning spell against Mumbai Indians in Match 29 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. In a high-scoring affair, he claimed 4/28 in four overs to register his maiden four-wicket haul in IPL. His efforts meant MI were restricted to 186/6 while chasing 207.
A stunning spell from Pathirana
MI openers Rohit Sharma (105*) and Ishan Kishan (23) added 70 runs before Pathirana dismissed the latter with his very first ball of the spell. The Sri Lankan sent back the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav for a duck two balls later. Pathirana returned to dismiss Tilak Varma, breaking his 50-run stand with Rohit. Romario Shepherd (1) was his final victim on the night.

Youngest to claim a four-fer for CSK
As per Cricbuzz, Pathirana (21y 118d) became the youngest bowler to claim four or more wickets for CSK in a match. He went past his compatriot Maheesh Theekshana (21y 254d), who claimed 4/33 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2022.

CSK managed 206/4 as Ruturaj Gaikwad smoked 69 and added 90 runs alongside Shivam Dube (66*). Rohit and Kishan added 70 runs before Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets in the same over. Rohit rebuilt the innings with a 50-run stand with Tilak. Although centurion Rohit continued to bat well at one end, Pathirana's four-fer meant MI were restricted to 186/6.
