SC-panel approves hikes for Team India, reportedly 100% or more
What's the story
Team India has more to look forward to in Test cricket than winning. After a meeting with captain Virat Kohli, his predecessor MS Dhoni and coach Ravi Shastri, an SC-appointed panel has approved massive salary hikes for the players.
According to DNA, they will get a hike of 100% or more.
Kohli has other demands too, like increased resting period between two series.
Salary
How much do players currently earn?
Currently, Grade A players are paid Rs. 2cr annually, Grade B players Rs.1cr and Grade C players Rs. 50L.
The playing XI of a test get Rs. 15L as match fee, and those in ODI and T20 get Rs. 6L and Rs. 3L respectively. Others in the team are paid half.
Former coach Anil Kumble had requested Rs. 5cr annually for Grade A players.
Information
How much will they get now?
Vinod Rai, chief of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), says the panel has agreed to "the principles on which compensation package has to be structured". He added "It's only a question of numbers now. We will match the revenue with compensation that each player receives."
Gap
What's the demand about resting period?
Apparently, Kohli and Co also pointed to the Lodha Committee's recommendations, which suggested a 15-day gap between any two series.
Kohli reportedly wants the team to land in England at least two weeks before the start of their tour and to have as many warm-up matches as possible.
Presently, the team is scheduled to have a two-day break after the series against Sri Lanka.
Matches
This is what Team India's schedule looks like
Team India, which is currently playing Sri Lanka in India, is set to go on a South Africa tour next. Then they head to Sri Lanka for a T20 tri-series involving Bangladesh and the hosts.
Next comes the IPL, with an England tour set for some time in July 2018.
BCCI maintains all concerns of the players will be taken into account.
