Information
South Africa dealt with a huge blow
South Africa have started the 2019 World Cup with two consecutive losses. They faced defeats against England and Bangladesh and will face India on Wednesday. The injury to Steyn comes as a big loss for the Proteas. Steyn was one of their main key weapons.
Replacement
Beuran Hendricks set to replace Steyn
Steyn gets replaced by left-arm fast bowler Beuran Hendricks.
The player made his ODI debut in January this year against Pakistan.
He has managed just one wicket from two matches so far.
Hendricks has seen more success in T20Is where he has 16 wickets at an average of 18.93.
It will be a massive test for him to come in and deliver the goods.
Feelings
Steyn will be absolutely gutted after being ruled out
Steyn was looking forward to bow out of limited-overs cricket by making an impression in the World Cup.
He will be absolutely gutted that his dream ended on a sour note.
The premier pacer, who is South Africa's fifth highest ODI wicket-taker of all time, had earlier cut short his IPL 2019 stint with the same issue.
He had featured just twice for RCB.
Information
Steyn never looked on song in training
He did intense rehab programme and took part in mild practice sessions, but never quite looked on song. On Monday, Steyn was seen bowling to Hashim Amla at the nets. SA will need to find a way out and get going.
Injuries
Steyn never quite going with injury issues
Steyn's career has been hampered due to injuries. In this decade, he couldn't play for more than a year.
Last year he featured against India in the first Test, before getting injured midway through the match.
He made a return in July 2018.
Steyn's worst moment came in 2016 when he suffered a shoulder injury. Physiotherapy and rehab helped him regain fitness.
