Mary Kom broke quarantine protocol to attend President's meeting
Indian women's ace boxer and Rajya Sabha member MC Mary Kom broke the mandatory 14-day quarantine protocol. The same was put in place by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Indian government in wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has claimed more than 11,000-plus lives. Here are further details on the same.
Indian boxing team was home-quarantined
The Indian boxing team, returning from the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Jordan, was "home-quarantined" in view of the coronavirus threat even though all the members have got the necessary health clearances, the national federation said on March 12. A total of 13 boxers and almost an equal number of coaching staff returned to Indiaafter clinching an unprecedented nine Olympic slots in the qualifiers.
Kom had self-isolated at her Delhi residence
Mary Kom had self-isolated at her Delhi residence since returning from this month's Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Jordan where she booked herself a second Olympic berth. The precautionary measure was necessitated by a training trip to Italy before landing in Jordan even though the entire Indian team got COVID-19 negative certificates from the IOC. However, on March 18, Kom broke the self-isolation.
Kom attended the breakfast hosted by the Indian President
Kom attended the breakfast hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. There were Members of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan present as well.
I only attended the President's event, says Kom
"I am home since I came back from Jordan. I only attended the President's event and did not meet Dushyant or shake hands with. My quarantine after Jordan ends but I'm going to be at home only for the next 3-4 days," she told IANS.
