Australia's Marnus Labuschagne made his presence felt in the first ODI versus England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham with a terrific three-dimensional display. Labuschagne was key with the ball in hand and took 3/39 from six overs. He was also alert in the field, taking four catches. And then during the run-chase, he smashed a solid unbeaten 77-run knock. Australia (317/3) beat England (315/10).
First player in ODI history with this record
As per Cricbuzz, Labuschagne is now the first player in ODI cricket to take three-plus wickets, four-plus catches and score 50-plus runs in the same ODI match.
A solid display on the field
It was Labuschagne who dismissed the dangerous Ben Duckett (95) with a caught and bowl effort. His googly did Duckett in. England's stand-in skipper, Harry Brook, was the next victim of Labuschagne (caught and bowled). He dismissed Jofra Archer next to complete a three-fer. Besides two caught and bowled, Labuschagne claimed the catches of Jacob Bethell and Adil Rashid.
A terrific 77* on offer with the bat
Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 77 from 61 balls. He slammed 7 fours and 2 sixes. He added an unbeaten 148-run stand alongside Travis Head, who smashed a match-winning 154*. In 53 ODIs, Labuschagne owns 1,733 runs at 39.38. This was his 12th ODI fifty.
