What did Mark Waugh say about India and BCCI?
Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh has lashed out at the BCCI and the Indian cricket team for refusing to play the Day/Night Test match in Australia later this year. Waugh used some harsh words claiming that India's refusal to play the pink ball Test is holding back the future of the five day format of the sport.
Waugh labels India selfish for refusing to play D/N Tests
"It's a little bit selfish from India's point of view because we need to revitalise Test cricket. Day/Night Test cricket in some countries is going to be one of those ingredients that could transform Test cricket back to where it should be" Mark Waugh said.
India are yet to play a Day/Night Test
India are one of the few nations yet to try the pink ball cricket. Earlier this month, the BCCI ruled out the possibility of playing the first Day/Night Test at Adelaide in December. Only Bangladesh and Ireland are the two other teams which haven't played the newest pink ball format. Afghanistan would play their first red-cherry Test in June.
Is Waugh right to slam the BCCI?
Waugh was surprised by India's decision and claimed it was selfish because of the falling popularity of Test cricket. Mark Waugh believes Test cricket is only popular in India, England and Australia and the BCCI's decision not to play Day/Night Test is damaging the sport. Is India being selfish in?
