Manchester United strike deal with PSG for Manuel Ugarte: Report
Manchester United have successfully negotiated a deal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the acquisition of midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The initial cost of this agreement is set at £42.2 million, but could potentially rise to as much as £50.7 million including performance-related add-ons. This transfer marks a significant milestone in United's recruitment strategy, as Ugarte was their primary midfield target throughout the window.
Ugarte's journey to Old Trafford
Ugarte is set to arrive in the UK today for a medical examination and to finalize personal terms. This move comes just a year after PSG acquired him from Sporting Lisbon for £51.1 million. According to Sky Sports News, Ugarte had expressed a strong desire to join Manchester United this summer, and personal terms were not an issue during negotiations.
United's squad adjustments for Ugarte's arrival
The transfer discussions between PSG and Manchester United also considered a loan move with an obligation to buy. However, United needed to offload players before proceeding with the deal. The departures of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley have now made room in Erik 10 Hag's squad for Ugarte this summer.
Ugarte's performance and McTominay's potential exit
Ugarte did not participate in PSG's first Ligue 1 match against Le Havre, which ended with a 4-1 victory for the reigning champions. Despite starting only 21 games in the 2023/24 season, he led the French top flight in tackles with a total of 98. Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is nearing an agreement on exit terms from Manchester United ahead of his potential move to Napoli.
