While they aim to finish in the top-four, they have also started planning for the next season. In the same light, Solskjaer is eyeing the players he probably wants in the coming season. Is he eyeing former United superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo? We analyze.
Solskjaer desires to have Ronaldo back
Solskjaer wants to settle at Old Trafford for the next couple of seasons, as he takes his managerial career to the next level. Talking to ESPN, the United manager talked about his current role at the club and his job so far, where he also spoke on having Ronaldo in the side to strengthen the club's attack.
Solskjaer open to invest in all departments
Speaking on transfers, Solskjaer said, "There's no particular position really [that we need to invest in the summer]. But, if [Lionel] Messi comes up then maybe we can, or [Cristiano] Ronaldo. If Ronaldo wants to come home then maybe we should take him back, eh?"
Solskjaer and Ronaldo have rich history with United
Talking about the relationship between the two, they played together at the club. Their team enjoyed success, as they won the FA Cup in 2003-04 and the EPL in 2006-07. Although the pair would have loved to win more, they did have a good four-year time together at the club, following which Ronaldo began his dominating reign at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo: A sensational United product
If we analyze Ronaldo's reign at United, he was truly sensational. In his six-year reign, Ronaldo won nine honors at Old Trafford. It includes three EPL titles, an FA Cup, twin League Cups, a Community Shield, a UEFA Champions League title and the FIFA Club World Cup. He also won a number of individual awards, including the prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or.
Is Solskjaer eyeing Lionel Messi as well?
Apart from Ronaldo, Solskjaer has also expressed his interest to have Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi in his side. While it might seem impossible to have both in the same team, Solskjaer said that he wished to have at least one of them in the side, possibly next summer. Meanwhile, players continue to give a positive response to Solskjaer's managerial tactics so far.
Will Ronaldo or Messi ever join United?
There seems to be no clear indication as to if Ronaldo would come back to his boyhood club. While he is enjoying time at Juventus as of now, a final comeback to Old Trafford can never be ruled out. As for Messi, he has always been loyal to Barca, and it looks impossible that he would join United.
