Transfer analysis: Players who could leave Manchester United this summer
All sport activities including football is facing uncertainty amid the coronavirus pandemic. With this postponement, the summer transfer window could also be affected. However, clubs will still do their homework in terms of potential new arrivals and expected departures. On the same note, we asses the players who could leave Manchester United this summer.
Chris Smalling will want regular football at United
Chris Smalling made a sound decision to join AS Roma on loan for the 2019-20 season. The United ace isn't someone who will wait in the wings. Roma are keen to sign Smalling on a permanent basis. He also has other suitors. This could tempt the Englishman to depart the club after 323 appearances. United could land a new defender to replace Smalling.
Phil Jones hasn't established himself despite being here for long
One of United's longest-serving players, Phil Jones went on to make just eight appearances for the club in 2019-20. It would be feasible for him to depart on loan and eye regular football. With three years left of a four-year extension last season, it would be difficult for a club to buy him permanently. Jones is the fifth-choice central defender at United.
Marcos Rojo's time at United is almost over
Argentine Marcos Rojo had arrived at Manchester United with high expectations in 2014. However, injuries stalled his United career and with just 27 appearances over the last three seasons, the versatile Rojo is nowhere near the mark. He is currently on-loan with his former club Estudiantes in Argentina. It is believed that the club is keen to keep him permanently.
Jesse Lingard has failed to live up to expectations
Despite showing plenty of promise under former Man United boss Jose Mourinho, England's Jesse Lingard has lost his charm. He has been battling poor form and despite being handed chances, he hasn't taken them. With the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, Lingard's presence as a number 10 has been hampered. With one year left in his contract, United would be happy to let him go.
