Manchester City's unbeaten run ended by Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool were on fire last night as they scored 3 second half goals to put an end to Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League campaign. The 7 goal thriller at Anfield also brought an end to Manchester City's record 18-game winning streak. The defeat is of little consequence to Manchester City's title hopes, but just a timely reminder that they are not invincible.
Liverpool run riot against high flying Manchester City
Liverpool opened the scoring through summer signing, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the 9th minute before Leroy Sane ensured the game was equally poised five minutes before the stroke of half time. The pace of the game quickly changed when Liverpool struck 3 quick second half goals in the span of 10 minutes to take the game away from Pep Guardiola's men.
City fall short of firepower
City, however, were not willing to give up easily and put up a fightback which saw goals from Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan, to take the scoreline to 4-3, but were unable to secure an unlikely point at the full-time whistle. Pep Guardiola's men are still 15 points clear of second place Manchester United, who have a game in hand.
Liverpool are now ranked 3rd
Liverpool have now leapfrogged Chelsea into third place, however, are equal on points with the Blues from London and Manchester United. The victory ensures Liverpool haven't been beaten by the Sky Blues at Anfield in the Premier League for 15 years now. Jurgen Klopp has now beaten Pep Guardiola on 5 different occasions, which is the most by any manager.
