Aguero hat-trick sees Manchester City decimate Chelsea 6-0
Chelsea are going through a terrible spell, and yet another routing, this time at the hands of Manchester City, has left many questioning Maurizio Sarri's appointment as the club's manager. Chelsea were very recently handed a 4-0 defeat by Bournemouth, and now City have reclaimed their position at the top of the Premier League table after demolishing Chelsea. Here're the consequences and records broken.
Sergio Aguero scripted history in the match
Sergio Aguero scored his second Premier League hat-trick in a mere eight days, which saw him equal Alan Shearer's record of the highest hat-tricks in Premier League history - 11. He has also become the highest scorer against the Big Six teams since joining the EPL in 2011. Aguero's eight EPL goals in 2019 is higher than what 11 EPL clubs have scored in this year.
Chelsea scripted some records they won't be proud of
Chelsea's 6-0 defeat is their heaviest loss in top-flight football in any competition since they lost 7-0 to Nottingham Forest in 1991. In 2019, Chelsea have conceded the second-highest number of goals (13), second only to Fulham (15). This was the first time any team under Maurizio Sarri has conceded more than four goals. It was also Sarri's heaviest defeat in league football ever.
What did the two managers have to say?
Guardiola was visibly proud of his team's performance, and said that his team dealt incredibly well with the pressure of facing "Arsenal at home and Chelsea at home and Everton away" in the same week. Sarri, on the other hand, looked lost for words, saying, "I am not able at the moment to understand, because during the week my feeling was really very good."
Chelsea players apologized to fans after the defeat
Chelsea players like Eden Hazard, David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso stayed back to apologize to the away fans for the huge loss suffered in the match. Rudiger's passion generated chants from Chelsea supporters who chanted his name after the match ended. Even vice-captain Azpilicueta said that it was one of the worst nights in his entire footballing career.
