Badminton: Indian shuttlers bow out at Malaysia Open
India's campaign at the Malaysia Open Super 750 badminton tournament came to a disappointing end on Saturday. India's two premier players PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth lost their respective matches as India bowed out. Sindhu was expected to do well in the semis but fell short, as Srikanth was beaten comfortably by Japan's Kento Momota. Here is all you need to know.
Semis blow for Sindhu and Srikanth
After beating Carolina Marin earlier in the quarters, Sindhu was tipped as the favorite, but she could not turn around things. Even though she forced the match into a decider Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei inflicted a heavy blow. Tzu-ying won the game 21-15, 19-21, 21-11. Meanwhile, Srikanth was blown away 21-13, 21-13 in the men's singles semi-final.
Momota to face Lee, Tzu-ying sets Intanon battle
Kento Momota has now set up a final battle against Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei. Lee overcame Tommy Sugiarto 21-18, 21-15 in straight games. On the other hand, Tzu-ying will lock horns with Bingjiao He of China in the final. The latter beat Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-17, 21-17 in the other semi-final.
