What's the story

Reigning Bangladesh T20I skipper Mahmudullah has been in a shaky form of late. As his side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the three-match T20I series, he could not perform in the just-concluded opening Test as well. Furthermore, his inconsistent form in the longest format could see him being out of the Tests for sometime now. Here is more.

Zimbabwe Tests

Mahmudullah could be dropped for Zimbabwe Test

As per a report by Cricbuzz, Mahmudullah is likely to be axed from the squad for the upcoming Test against Zimbabwe at home, starting February 22. The primary reason for this is his inconsistent form of late. Meanwhile, he has been advised by the team management to focus on limited-overs, especially T20Is, with the ICC World T20 to be played later this year.

Mahmudullah urged to re-think about his future in Tests

"We have asked our head coach to talk to him regarding his future in the longer-version cricket and he had spoken with him in this regard asking him to re-think about it and concentrate on the shorter format," said a national selection member.

Test struggles

Mahmudullah has struggled in Tests of late

Overall, he has scored 2,764 runs in 93 innings at an average of 31.8, including four centuries and 16 half-centuries, with a top score of 146.

Recent performance

Mahmudullah's poor outing against Pakistan did not sit well

Considering his recent performance, the opening Test against Pakistan saw him scoring just 25 runs. Meanwhile, he fell victim to a hat-trick by Naseem Shah, as his reckless shot of playing the ball wide outside off was not well accepted by the team management. Thus, it has prompted them to take a call on his Test future.
