Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric to renew contract with club
Luka Modric was individually the most successful player of 2018. He won the UEFA Male Player of The Year, the FIFA Men's Player of the Year, and the Ballon d'Or. Earlier it was rumored that Modric wanted to switch clubs, which he vehemently denied. Now he has decided to renew his Real Madrid contract which will see him at the club till June 2021.
Modric was an integral part of Real Madrid's recent successes
The Croatian, who was declared the best player of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, was an integral part of the recent European successes Real Madrid have seen. His place in their midfield helped Los Blancos create onslaughts on opposition defenses, which hardly any European club could stop. He continues to be the most important player for manager Santiago Solari till date.
Why Luka Modric was the key to Real Madrid's successes
When Real lined up in the 4-3-3 formation, Modric was the central player in the team, around whom the tactical gameplay rotated. Among the three midfielders, one takes a defensive approach while one goes forward, but Modric performed both the roles with an almost-perfect finesse. Modric has a great vision which helps Real develop attacks, take control of the game's rhythm, and keep possession.
A look at Modric's career till date
Modric started off his career with Dinamo Zagreb, and after loan stints with Zrinjski and Inter Zaprešić, he signed for Tottenham Hotspur where he played from 2008 to 2012. Real Madrid signed the talented midfielder in 2012 for a sum of £30 million. However, he was not as acclaimed until recently due to Ronaldo's towering shadow, but has since been given his deserved adoration.
Modric likely to retire at Real Madrid
Modric's new contract will see him stay with Los Blancos till June 30, 2021. This means that he will stay at the Santiago Bernabeu till he is 36, and that means he will probably end his career at Real Madrid.
