Modric is great, but Messi is much better: Luis Enrique

What's the story

Former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, said that Messi is the best footballer in the world.

This comment comes after Leo Messi was excluded from the list of top three contenders for the FIFA awards.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah, and Luka Modric have been shortlisted this season, for the prestigious award.

Messi's exclusion has raised eyebrows since he had won the domestic brace in 2017/18.

Comments

No one better than Messi

Enrique said that if he talks about the best Croatian players, Modric and Rakitic would definitely make the cut.

However, if he has to comment about the best player in the world, there is no one worthy enough to take Messi's place.

Enrique has seen Messi from close quarters as he had managed Barcelona to a treble in 2014/15.

Why was Messi's exclusion a complete snub?

Messi's exclusion is unreasonable since he had a hugely successful season in Spain.

Messi won La Liga and Copa Del Rey with Barcelona, along with the European Golden Shoe for being the top scorer.

He achieved this feat even though Barca were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the UCL.

On the other hand, Salah didn't win a single piece of silverware with Liverpool.
