Loris Karius says nobody told him to flee from Liverpool
Liverpool goal-keeper, Loris Karius, has denied rumors that he was asked to leave Anfield after his nightmarish display in the 2017-18 Champions League final against Real Madrid. Karius made two grave errors which helped Benzema and Bale to score goals, thus clinching the trophy for Los Blancos. Karius, presently, is on a two-year loan to Besiktas. Further details follow.
The mistakes by Karius cost Liverpool the final
The opening goal of the Champions League final, in Kiev, was scored when Karius played a wrong pass that was intercepted by Karim Benzema. The French striker did not hesitate to land it in the back of the net. The next mistake came late into the match when Karius let a long-range shot by Gareth Bale slip between his hands and cross the goal-line.
Comments from Karius regarding his move
Karius insists Klopp never blamed him for the mistakes and that he still shares a good relationship with the Liverpool manager. Regarding his move to Besiktas, the German commented that the pressure got so big on Liverpool to do something, that they had to take a step. Karius further clarified that he decided to move after Alisson's signing to get more playing time.
Karius does not believe Sergio's elbow was a factor
Sergio Ramos grabbed headlines when he dislocated Salah's shoulder during a tackle and the Egyptian had to leave the field in tears. Further, an elbow by Ramos also caused Karius a concussion. Karius does not believe the injury had anything to do with his mistakes, commenting on Ramos, "He is a tough player but I have nothing against him personally,"
Karius says he has made peace with himself
Karius says that he does realize he will be asked numerous questions regarding what went down in Kiev, but he knows it cannot be undone. He has also confessed that the match haunted him for weeks, but now he is finished with it. "It was a great season that ended with a very unlucky ending", said the 25-year-old custodian.
