Honored by Lord's for both batting and bowling
Lord's commemorates individual performance by putting up a cricketer's name on the prestigious 'Honors Board'. A century, a 5-wicket haul (or 10 wickets in a match) is what it takes to get one's name up there. Chris Woakes became the latest player to do a treble here. Here are 5 other players who have their names on the boards for both batting and bowling.
The greatest all-rounder of all time
Sir Garfield Sobers is the greatest all-rounder the world has ever seen. He loved this ground and with his performances, he got his name etched on the Honors Boards multiple times. In 1970, Sobers took 6 wickets for 21 runs playing for Rest of the World. He even scored two centuries here for West Indies. His highest score, for WI, at Lord's is 163*.
The only Indian to achieve this unique feat
The only India to get his name on both batting and bowling Honors Boards, at Lord's, is Vinoo Mankad. Extraordinarily, he managed to do in the same match. It was the 1952 India's tour of England and Mankad took 5 wickets in England's first innings after scoring a 72 in India's 1st innings. Then he scored 184 to achieve the double.
Ian Botham puts his name in record books
Ian Botham put his name on the Lord's Honors Board twice during second Test of Pakistan's tour of England in 1978. In the first innings of the match, Botham scored a 108 to help England post 364 runs. Botham could not get a single wicket during Pakistan's first innings. He bounced back in the final innings by taking 8 Pakistani wickets.
The present English all-rounder has created Lord's history
Ben Stokes is another all-rounder who has the unique distinction of having his name on the batting as well as bowling Honors Boards. During New Zealand's tour of England in 2015, Stokes scored an amazing 101 off 92 balls. This ton helped England win the match. Last year, when West Indies toured England, he picked up a 5-wicket haul to achieve the remarkable landmark.
The flamboyant Australian who was also an Air Force Pilot
Keith Miller is considered one of the best Australian all-rounders of all time. He was a part of the Australian squad now famously known as the Invincibles. This squad, under Sir Bradman's leadership, didn't even lose a single match in their 1948 tour. Miller has two 5-wicket hauls and one century at this hallowed ground. He became the second player to do a treble.
