Lockie Ferguson ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Details
What's the story
New Zealand's fast bowler, Lockie Ferguson, has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a foot injury.
Ferguson sustained the injury during a warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi on Sunday.
An initial medical assessment revealed that he would not recover in time for the tournament.
This is indeed a massive blow for the Kiwis as Ferguson is a vital cog of their bowling unit.
Squad update
Kyle Jamieson to replace injured Ferguson
Canterbury Kings's fast bowler, Kyle Jamieson, has been picked as Ferguson's replacement in the squad. He will be leaving for Pakistan today (February 18).
Jamieson had just returned to domestic cricket after a 10-month break due to a stress fracture in his back.
His performance had helped the Kings reach the Grand Final of the Dream11 Super Smash tournament last December.

He said, "We're really disappointed for Lockie."
He added, "Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event."
Replacement's potential
Stead confident in Jamieson's abilities
Stead was confident of Jamieson's abilities as Ferguson's replacement.
He said, "Kyle brings plenty of pace and extra bounce which will suit the conditions here in Pakistan."
He also praised Jamieson for his performance since returning to the Dream11 Super Smash, noting his pace and energy as key assets for a pace bowler at a pinnacle event like the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
