Squad analysis EPL 2018-19: Liverpool
Liverpool will go into the season knowing that they are one of the strongest teams in the Premier League. They have a chance to win their first league title in more than 25 years. Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp made sure that the transfer window was a strong one with key additions. Here we analyze the Liverpool squad.
Liverpool can stop City resurgence
With Manchester City being the team to beat this season, Liverpool look like the only realistic candidate which can stop Pep Guardiola's men. Having said that, Liverpool look brilliant on paper and have solid depth everywhere. With Klopp's methods, they could be an absolute menace.
Analysis of attack in Liverpool ranks
The attack of Liverpool is probably one of the most lethal in world football. We got a glimpse of their three-man attack in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mane last term. The three footballers tore apart defenses and were strong as a unit. Daniel Sturridge looked superb in pre-season and could make an impact. Xherdan Shaqiri adds real composure alongside Adam Lallana.
Salah is their focal point
Mohamed Salah was inspirational for the Reds in the 2017-18 season. He was adjudged the PFA Player of the Season and was the worthy winner of the Golden Boot. He scored 44 goals in 52 matches for Liverpool across all competitions.
Liverpool mid-field has the depth and steel
With the additions of Naby Keita and Fabinho, the Liverpool mid-field looks strong and could dictate terms in the center of the pitch. Jordan Henderson is an able leader and will form the three-man mid-field along with Keita and Fabinho. Then there is the veteran James Milner alongside Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum to give the extra push. The powerful Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain is present as well.
All eyes will be on Keita and Fabinho
The duo came to Liverpool in whopping deals this summer. Fabinho was rock solid for Monaco in the last two seasons and displayed his qualities. Keita, on the other hand, was superb for Leipzig and can play both as number 8 and 10.
A look at Liverpool's defense
Virgil van Dijk adds the authority at the back and is the leader. Dejan Lovren had an excellent campaign at the FIFA World Cup 2018 and will partner Virgil. Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez are other options centrally. The young Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have impressed as full-backs. Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno are crucial back-ups.
Virgil van Dijk and Lovren are crucial in defense
Both Virgil van Dijk and Lovren will be crucial. Liverpool have the knack of leaking in goals and we saw that last term. But this season we expect the defenders to give a better account of themselves.
Analysis of Liverpool goal-keeping scenario
Alisson's arrival from Roma signals interesting times ahead for the Reds. He had an excellent season for Roma and went on to become Brazil's number one custodian at the World Cup in Russia. Alisson solves Liverpool's issues in this position that have been present since quite sometime. Karius and Mignolet will battle for the second choice keeper.
