Liverpool record £39 mn profit; look to strengthen their squad
Liverpool are in free-scoring form and are gunning for a second place finish in EPL. Liverpool's fans have another reason to celebrate after they turned a £21 million loss in 2016 into a £39 million post-tax profit in 2017. The turnaround is courtesy of the new broadcast deal and the new main-stand at Anfield. With this war-chest, they are looking to strengthen their squad.
Posted profits despite spending on squad and infrastructure
As per the club's latest accounts for the financial year 2017, Liverpool posted an overall revenue of £364 mn, £62 mn more than the previous year. The club also made a net cash investment of £91 mn on their players and infrastructure. Liverpool's revenue from match-days was up by £12 mn thanks to the new 'Main Stand'.
Revenues soar at Anfield
Most of the increase in revenue has come from the new broadcast deal, which saw the media revenue rise by £30 mn to a total of £154 mn. Liverpool's fantastic performances on the field have seen their commercial revenue also grow. During the year, Liverpool announced 12 new partnerships. Commercial revenue of the club has gone up by £20 mn.
Summer spending spree on the cards
These numbers are despite Liverpool not playing European football in 2016. The management is expecting an increase in the coming year, thanks to Liverpool's return to the Champions League, which has a massive fan following. The Reds have now significantly improved their financial position and are looking to invest in building a squad, come this summer.
