EPL 2018-19: Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United: Here're the records broken
As expected, Liverpool have triumphed over their north-western rivals in the same Liverpudlian fashion we have been seeing this season. Klopp's men were clearly the better side, with much advanced link-up play and meticulous passes throughout the match. United managed only six shots at goal while Liverpool took 36. Klopp's men had a much higher pass accuracy as well. Here're all the records broken.
Highest lead Liverpool have ever taken against United
Liverpool are leading the league table with 45 points, and have not suffered a single defeat yet. This win saw the Merseysiders take a lead of 19 points over Manchester United, their highest ever since the present points system came into practice. Whereas, United have now conceded 29 goals, one more than the amount of goals conceded in the entirety of the 2017-18 season.
The match had Shaq's name written all over
The match was stuck at 1-1 for a long time before Xherdan Shaqiri came into the picture. He single-handedly ensured Liverpool's victory by scoring two thunderous goals, albeit from deflections. With his performance, Shaqiri has etched his name in history, becoming the second Liverpool player to score a brace in his debut match against Manchester United, the first one being Nigel Clough in 1994.
Alisson's slip-up gave United some breathing space
While he has been Liverpool's pillar behind many successes this season, Alisson has notched up an unwanted record in this match. Him failing to keep Lukaku's cross to himself and letting the ball get away caused Jesse Lingard to score United's only goal of the night. This is his second error to have led to a goal - equal to what Karius and Mignolet did together in 2017-18.
Marvelous Mane has ripped apart all opponents this season
Liverpool forward Mane has been phenomenal this term, and his first goal against Manchester United was a piece of athletic genius. The impeccable control and the finish through de Gea's legs made Anfield stand still for a second. Mane has now scored nine goals and assisted thrice in his last 16 EPL appearances at Anfield.
