Andre Russell banned for one year for doping violation
West Indies cricketer Andre Russell has been handed a one year ban from cricket for violating a doping whereabouts rule. The ban has been handed to him by an independent doping panel in Kingston. The three-member panel found him guilty of being negligent in filing his whereabouts on three separate occasions within a 12-month period in 2015.

Andre Russell is a Jamaican cricketer and was a part of the West Indies international cricket team during their World T20 wins in 2010 and 2016. An all-rounder, Russell made his test debut in 2010 against Sri Lanka and ODI debut against Ireland at the 2011 ICC World Cup. He is mainly known for his match-finishing innings in ODI and T20 cricket.

Russell was a part of the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during their victory in the year 2014. The following year, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, playing for KKR.

Russell to miss major T20 tournaments in 2017
The ban has resulted in Andre Russell missing the Pakistan Premier League, starting 9 February. He will also miss the upcoming 2017 IPL. Russell will not be a part of the Caribbean Premier League's Jamaica Tallawahs this year either.
