Second-oldest Indian to feature in IPL
Dhoni attained a unique feat in Chennai Super Kings' IPL 2024 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. At the age of 42 years and 259 days, he became the second-oldest Indian to play an IPL game. The former CSK skipper is now only behind former leg-spinner Pravin Tambe (44y 219d), who played his last IPL game in 2016.
Oldest player with this feat
Last year, Dhoni became the oldest-ever player to lead a side in the IPL. He broke the record of Shane Warne, who led Rajasthan Royals at 41 years and 249 days in 2011. Dhoni achieved this feat at 41 years and 267 days.
Most IPL sixes as captain
Dhoni holds the record for hitting the most sixes as captain in the IPL. In fact, he is the only player with over 200 maximums in this regard. The star wicketkeeper-batter struck 218 sixes while leading CSK and Rising Pune Supergiants. Virat Kohli, who led the Royal Challengers, is next on this list with a total of 168 sixes.
Most runs, sixes in 20th over
Over the years, Thala Dhoni has emerged as the flag-bearer of finishers in the cash-rich league. He owns the most runs in the final over (736 runs off just 305 balls). His strike rate in the 20th over shoots to 241.31. Dhoni is the only batter with over 50 sixes in this regard, and he has 61 of them.
