IPL: Lesser-known records of Punjab Kings' Kagiso Rabada
Punjab Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 42 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at Eden Gardens. Punjab's Kings desperately eye a comeback after losing four matches on the trot. As has been the case, PBKS would have their hopes pinned on Kagiso Rabada's firepower. Here are the lesser-known IPL records of the South African seamer.
Fastest to 100 IPL wickets
Last year, Rabada became the fastest player to 100 wickets in the IPL. He reached this landmark in his 64th IPL match, breaking the record of legend Lasith Malinga. The latter picked up 100 IPL wickets in his 70th match. Rabada touched the 100-wicket mark in the 18th match against Gujarat Titans at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
Quickest to 100 wickets by balls
Rabada also became the fastest to 100 IPL wickets in terms of balls. He took 1,438 balls for the same. Notably, Malinga completed 100 wickets in 1,622 balls. Dwayne Bravo (1,619) and Harshal Patel (1,647) follow Bravo on the elite list.
Two or more wickets in 10 successive matches
During IPL 2020, Rabada scripted an uncanny record by scalping two or more wickets in 10 consecutive matches. He went past Malinga, who did so in eight matches. Rabada's figures read 2/21 v SRH, 3/26 v CSK, 2/28 v KXIP, 2/31 v RCB, 2/37 v RR, 2/23 v KXIP, 2/38 v MI, 4/22 v SRH, 2/42 v KKR, 4/21 v RCB.
Few of his other feats
Before joining PBKS, Rabada played 50 matches for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. To date, he is their second-highest wicket-taker (76), only behind Amit Mishra (106). His tally of four four-wicket hauls is the most for DC. Rabada won the Purple Cap in 2020 by taking 30 wickets for DC. He remains the only DC bowler with 30+ scalps in a season.
