Happy Birthday Yuvraj Singh: A look at his glorious career
Yuvraj Singh, one of the best all-rounders Indian cricket has ever produced, turns 37 today, and words fall short when trying to explain his massive contribution to India's T20 and ODI World Cup triumphs and his various other career achievements. Yuvraj has fought against the toughest bowlers, against cancer, and has beaten all odds to etch his name in cricket history. Here's more.
One of the best all-rounders in limited overs' cricket
Yuvraj has played 304 ODI matches for India, amassing 8,701 runs, including 14 tons, with an average of 36.55. His highest score is 150. He was also in the Indian squad for 58 T20I matches, scoring 1,177 runs in total, with his highest being a 77*. Yuvraj's bowling has been equally impressive, and he has 111 ODI and 28 T20I wickets to his name.
Yuvraj the pillar behind India's World Cup triumphs
Yuvraj amassed an incredible 362 runs, including one ton and four half-centuries, in a span of 9 matches in the 2011 World Cup. He also picked up 15 wickets, and was rightfully adjudged Player of the Tournament. The 2007 T20 World Cup saw him scoring six sixes off a Stuart Broad over, leading to an incredible 12-ball half-century, which is still the quickest T20 50.
The many records of the incredible champion
Yuvraj is the only player to score a 50 and take a five-wicket haul in the same World Cup match, which he did against Ireland in 2011. The Chandigarh-born cricketer has won three world cups- U-19, T20, and the ODI version. Yuvraj has been the only cricketer to be awarded the Man of the Series in two World Cups- U-19 and the senior version.
Yuvraj knocked the deadliest disease out of the stadium
In 2011, Yuvraj was diagnosed with the deadliest disease imaginable, cancer, which had affected his lungs. The whole country and the cricketing world was anxious for him, and in 2012, Yuvraj went to the US for treatment. Slowly but steadily, he battled through the disease, and came out victorious. His story is an inspiration for many who are suffering from this deadly disease.
Kudos to Yuvraj for making this promise on his birthday
