Besides the world event title, she is targeting another Olympics medal as well. The next Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo in 2020. Here's more.
Kom sealed her sixth World Championships medal recently
Last week, Mary carved out a place for herself in the history of boxing by becoming the first female boxer to win six World Championships medals. The 36-year-old Kom defeated Ukraine's Hanna Okhota in the final of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. Kom won 5-0 after as she was declared the victor in an unanimous call in the finale.
'My dream was to become a world champion again'
A felicitation ceremony was organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to honor the legend. Kom stated that it was her dream to become a champion, once again and she had worked hard for it. "My dream was to become a world champion again. I worked very hard for it. I am a mother of three I had several responsibilities," she said.
Kom eyes more glory at the highest level
"The government also gave me an extra responsibility by naming me member of parliament but I never stopped training. Now that I have won the sixth title I want a seventh one and I also want to win an Olympic gold," said Mary Kom.
Kom to bulk up for 2020 Olympics
In recent past, Mary has fought in the 48kg category. She is expected to bulk up for 2020 Olympics qualifiers, as she will fight in the 51kg division. The 48kg category is not present in the Olympics. Notably, her bronze medal achievement in the London Olympics in 2012 came in the 51kg category. The 36-year-old boxer also quashed questions about her retirement.
