As per Cricbuzz, Morkel managed the feat in 2,859 balls in 2013 in his 59th ODI match against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Morkel bagged three scalps (3/34) in the contest.
Overall, Morkel retired with 180 ODI scalps across 117 ODIs (114 innings) at 25.32.

3,048 - Lungi Ngidi
As mentioned, Ngidi achieved the feat in SA's last group stage game against England in Karachi.
The pacer hit the 100 ODI wickets mark on his 3,048th ball, surpassing Imran Tahir for the second spot.
Playing his 66th ODI (65th inning), he returned with figures worth 1/33 (dismissed Jos Buttler).
Ngidi now owns 100 scalps at 29.46, including one five-wicket haul.

Imran Tahir rounds out this list, having attained the feat in 3,050 balls.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the former Proteas spinner managed the same back in 2016 against the West Indies in Basseterre.
