Laver Cup: Anderson-Sock see off Federer-Djokovic in doubles tie
A lot was expected from the dream pairing of Djokovic and Federer in the Laver Cup. The tennis stars with a total of 34 Grand Slam titles between them represented Team Europe. But they were handed a shocking loss by Team World's Jack Sock and Kevin Anderson. Despite the loss, Team Europe leads Team World by a 3-1 margin.
Sock-Anderson seal a thriller
Team Europe seals all three singles matches
For Team Europe, the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin and Kyle Edmund all won their respective singles matches to give them a 3-0 lead. Dimitrov defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-1, 6-4, Team Europe, then, won another tie when David Goffin saved two match points to beat Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 4-6, 11-9. Another close match saw Edmund beat Sock 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
Federer, Djokovic pipped in doubles
Sock and Anderson came together to topple Djokovic-Federer 6-7, 6-3, 10-6. Federer had previously won in the event alongside Spaniard Rafael Nadal in 2017. But with Djokovic, he wasn't able to repeat a similar show. Djokovic also drilled a forehand shot into Federer's back, prompting laughter all around. In the end, they fell short and will look to make up in the singles matches.
