Benzema's brace helps Real Madrid beat Elche: Records broken
An incredible brace by Karim Benzema helped Real Madrid claim a 2-1 victory against Elche in La Liga. As a result of his late strikes, Madrid came from a goal down to win the fixture. They are now six points behind Atletico Madrid on the standings. Atletico dropped points against 10-man Getafe post Real's win. Here are the records broken.
How did the match pan out?
Elche came close to scoring several times in the first half, however, Thibaut Courtois made some fine saves. After a goal-less half, Calvo finally scored the opener for Elche (61'), that could have turned out to be the winner. However, Benzema's strike in the 73rd minute restored parity. He scored again in the stoppage time (90'+1') to win it for Real Madrid.
Luka Modric provides another assist to Benzema
Substitute Luka Modric delivered the ball into the box as Benzema was able to score the opener for Real Madrid. As per Opta, the mid-fielder has provided 13 assists to Benzema in La Liga, more than for any other Real Madrid player in the competition. In fact, his last five assists in the league were for the French striker.
Benzema continues his run at home
Benzema has stood out in the recent La Liga games at home. He has scored six goals in his last seven home games (La Liga), netting in each of the last three at home (vs Getafe, Valencia and Elche).

An elated Benzema expressed contentment following the win. "It wasn't an easy game for us. Elche are well-organised at the back. Teams come here and sit back and it's difficult for us," he said.. "Each time we're on the pitch, we know in our heads that it's the league at stake, that we have to give more to get to the top."
